from Rome Fiumicino (Leonardo da Vinci) Airport
There is a rail link from the airport to central Rome’s Termini stazione . At the airport the signs to the trains lead you on a rather tortuous route. Direct trains leave every half hour and the journey should take approx. 35 mins. Buy your through ticket to Chiusi at the airport as the queues at Termini are dire. The airport trains arrive and depart from Binario (platform) 22 at Roma Termini.
At Termini change for a mainline train travelling north – Intercity trains departing for Florence or Milan, stop at Chiusi and take about 11/2 hours. There are slower trains called ‘Regionale’ which also stop at Castiglione del Lago.

By Road
Using the A1 Florence – Rome Autostrada (toll motorway) take the Chiusi/ Chianciano exit. After the Tolls turn right towards Chiusi. It is a complicated junction so you need to watch for cars coming from the left or turning across you. Travel towards Chiusi for about 7 minutes (all times are approximate). You will come round a series of s-bends down a slope and see a turning on your left signposted Siena, Sinalunga and Chianciano. Turn left (you feel as though you are almost coming back on yourself and travel for approximately 3 – 4 minutes, initially over a hill but thereafter through relatively flat open countryside.
You will come across a crossroad with four farmhouses, one on each corner. The turning to the right is signposted for Porto. Turn right along this road and follow it up the hill for approx. ten minutes through the village of Porto. Continue on the road and you will see on your left a signpost for Lago Montepuluciano. Continue past this turning on the same road and you will see a large square Umbrian brick house on the skyline to your right and a solitary tree on the left formed into the shape of a Y. Go round the bend and you will pass a couple of houses on your left (separated by a few yards). Immediately afterwards there are two houses on the right (one set back from the road) and we are immediately afterwards on the right, a white stone Villa, with brick frontage and gates with our name on.
If you approach the area from the direction of Castiglione del Lago, drive through Castiglione towards Citta della Pieve and Chiusi. Turn right at the roundabout with a fontain at its centre signposted Vittelino, Gioiella, Pozzuolo and continue on that road for ten – 12 minutes. Near Gioiella the road bends round to the left with a right hand turning running straight ahead for Pozzuolo and Casamaggiore, don’t take the side turning stay on the road to Gioiella. At the village turn right at the bar, the turning is quite sharp and is signposted for Porto. Follow the road for about three minutes when you will come over the brow of a hill and start a long slope down. We are the white stone house on the left at the bottom of the hill.
